The Macallan brings Rare Cask edition to UK
The Macallan Scotch whisky has introduced a new expression called Rare Cask to the UK, made from 16 different casks – the most ever used in a single Macallan whisky.
The Macallan Rare Cask is made from 16 different Scotch whisky casks from the brand’s distillery
Described as a variant that “challenges the very conventions of whisky creation”, Macallan Rare Cask includes whiskies aged in handmade Spanish and American oak casks – some of which will not be used again.
On the nose, there is said to be notes of vanilla and raisin, with apple, lemon and orange leading to spicier hints of root ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and clove.
The palate offer prominent oak flavours, with vanilla, chocolate and lemon zest giving a “warm and woody” finish.
Macallan Rare Cask was first launched in the US in October 2014.
“Rare Cask is about firstly identifying a selection of casks which can truly be called rare,” said Bob Dalgarno, the master whisky master who is responsible for creating Rare Cask.
“Each of the cask styles result in different character so each imparts their own distinct influence on the final whisky.”
The Macallan Rare Cask is bottled at 43% abv and is available from specialist whisky retailers including The Whisky Shop for an RRP of £200.
