Santamanía craft distillery launches gin in UK

Madrid’s first micro-distillery, Santamanía, is set to launch its namesake gin across the UK for the first time.

The gin is made from a selection of Spanish botanicals and traditional gin ingredients

Produced in Spain’s first urban distillery by founders Javier Domínguez, Ramón Morillo and Victor Fraile, Santamanía gin is set to roll out across the UK in coming months through Gin Foundry.

The gin is made from a selection of Spanish botanicals and traditional gin ingredients, including a Tempranillo Spanish grape neutral spirit, juniper berries, coriander seed, liquorice root, Spanish lime and lemon, angelica and orris root, and Spanish pistachios.

Of the flavour, Santamanía distillery says: “There is a soft citrus and a slight jammy note present. To taste, grape and citrus notes announce themselves with a spark, but are soon rounded off by juniper, cardamom and coriander seed.

“It leaves a rather fleshy fruit, sweet note to finish with raspberry and grape once again intertwined. Spanish pistachios are added for a nutty finish, which compliments the pleasant fruit note inherent on the palate.

“The gin is both vibrant and unusual from the verdant grape base, while it also retains the core characters that will please the more traditional gin drinker.”
In May, Santamanía partnered with local craft brewery Cervezas La Virgen to launch a new vodka distilled from beer, and last year the distillery released an aged version of its inaugural London dry gin.
