Historic building transformed into craft distillery

The renovation of a disused historic building has started in Maryland to make way for new craft distillery, McClintock Distilling.

McClintock will also produce a Bourbon and Irish-style whiskey aged in barrels on site

The owners of McClintock Distilling plan to open the craft distillery in Frederick this autumn, launching with a craft gin using “Appalachian-inspired” botanicals as well as a “sustainably sourced” white whiskey.

McClintock will also produce a Bourbon and Irish-style whiskey to age in barrels on site for future sale.

The 5,000 square foot distillery will feature a tasting room and production area, will regular tours and tastings available to the public.

In addition, the venue will operate as an event space for the community.

Tyler Hegamyer, owner of McClintock Distilling, said: “We are so excited to start our build-out and begin the time-honored tradition of distilling spirits. Our mission from the start has been to bring innovation to the industry and to invest in the community I grew up in.

“We are very thankful to the City of Frederick for being so supportive of our efforts to bring distilling back to Western Maryland.”

McClintock Distilling will join other Maryland distilleries including Lyon Distilling, Blackwater Distilling and the Baltimore Distilling Company as some of the first distilleries in the state since Prohibition.

In March this year, a Maryland senator proposed a new bill to allow 18-year-old members of the US military to drink alcohol, despite the legal drinking age in the country being 21.
