‘Cloud bar’ with breathable cocktails opens

A walk in “cloud bar” allowing visitors to breathe in cocktails and inhale real alcohol is set to open in London.

Bompas & Parr’s Alcoholic Architecture is described as a “cloud bar”

Wacky multi-sensory culinary events group Bompas & Parr will launch the bar, called Alcoholic Architecture, in London’s Borough Market later this month.

Said to “explode drinks to the scale of architecture”, the installation is a “fully immersive alcohol environment” featuring a cloud entirely composed of fine spirits and mixers at a ratio of 1:3.

It is made using powerful humidifiers which saturate the air, allowing alcohol to enter visitors’ bloodstream through the lungs and eyeballs.

Sitting next to Southwark Cathedral on the site of an ancient monastery, the bar will also serve liquid cocktails comprised of spirits and beers historically created by monks, including Chartreuse, Benedictine, Trappist beer and fortified wine Buckfast.

Alcoholic Architecture will open at the end of July until early 2016.

In 2013, Bompas & Parr, headed by Sam Bompas and Harry Parr, created the world’s first “whisky tornado” – a swirling mist of whisky vapour that can be breathed in through a straw.

Showcased at King’s College London’s Festival of Food and Ideas, the installation was described as metaphor for the “impact the Scottish weather has on flavour formation in whisky”.

Earlier this year, the duo hosted an alternative whisky tasting on Valentine’s Day where liquid was sipped off bare bodies.
