Prince Charles to tour Scotch whisky distilleries

The Prince of Wales will visit some of Scotland’s best-known Scotch whisky distilleries today, including Ardbeg and Laphroaig.

Prince Charles and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall visited the Ballindalloch distillery earlier this year

Located on the Isle of Islay, which has eight whisky distilleries in total, Ardbeg and Laphroaig are both celebrating their 200^th anniversary this year.

It is understood that Prince Charles will enjoy a dram at both facilities and will also be presented with the chance to fill a cask.

The Islay visit marks the end of a week of Scottish engagements for the Prince and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall.

The Laphroaig distillery is now owned by Beam Suntory and is the only Scotch whisky to carry the Royal Warrant of the Prince of Wales.

Owned today by LVMH, ARdbeg was first established in 1798 although it was not licensed until 1815.

The other six Islay distilleries include Bowmore, Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain, Caol Ila, Kilchoman and Lagavulin.
