Maverick extends Sherry-finished Scotch range
By Amy HopkinsMaverick Drinks has extended its range of Sherry-cask matured Darkness! Scotch whiskies with the addition of six new bottlings.
All of the new expressions created by the UK drinks distributor further mature whisky from some of Scotland’s most renowned distilleries in first-fill, 50-litre Sherry casks, offering a “greater surface area to volume ratio”.
The Darkness! Invergordon 23 Year Old Pedro Ximénez & Oloroso Hybrid Cask Finish (£76.95) is finished in a cask made up of staves from ex-Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso casks.
Darkness! Ben Nevis 17 Year Old Palo Cortado Cask Finish (£66.95) is said to be the first Scotch whisky to be finished in a specially built 50-litre cask that previous held Palo Cortado Sherry.
Darkness! Tobermory 17 Year Old Oloroso Cask Finish (£57.95) is described as “rich and nutty”, while Darkness! Tobermory Heavily Peated 16 Year Old Oloroso Cask Finish (£71.95) boasts “lip-smacking fruit notes”.
Two more Sherry-cask finished Bruichladdich Scotch whiskies make up the new additions to the range, one aged in Oloroso Sherry casks (£81.95) and another in PX casks (£74.95).
All have been bottled between 49% and 60% abv. The Darkness! range was first released in May last year.
