Louisville producer plans $12.5m craft distillery
By Annie HayesLouisville spirits company Rabbit Hole Spirits LLC has unveiled plans to build a US$12.5 million craft distillery for Bourbon and rye whiskey production.
The owners hope the distillery will be in operation by the end of 2016The producer has received support from the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA), which last week approved US$650,000 in tax incentives for the project, due to be constructed in Jefferson County.
The owners hope the distillery, which is projected to create around 22 jobs with an average hourly wage of US$30, will be in operation by the end of 2016.
Presently, Rabbit Hole Distilling manufactures four flavours of Kentucky Moonshine, while Bourbon and rye whiskies produced in partnership with New Riff Distilling in Northern Kentucky are currently ageing in barrels.
A statement released by KEDFA said: “The company’s state-of-the-art distillery will produce 5,000 barrels per year, house an events center, and offer daily tours.
“This facility will help draw tourism to the neighborhood as well as the industry.”
Co-owner of Rabbit Hole Spirits, Mike Safai, plans to move his coffee-roasting business next door to the distillery.
Kaveh Zamanian, who is also co-owner of the Rabbit Hole Spirits, told Kentucky.com: “We feel coffee and Bourbon are going to complement each other and bring a unique tourism experience.”
Earlier this year, Kentucky welcomed its first ever female master distiller at the state’s historic Old Taylor Distillery.
