SMWS unveils limited edition 17yo Scotch whisky

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) is launching a limited edition 17-year-old whisky to celebrate its inaugural appearance at The Islay Whisky Festival.

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society has launched an exclusive expression to mark its debut at The Islay Whisky Festival

The Dark, smouldering flamenco gypsy from cask number 3.243 will launch at the society’s Garden Party on 22 May and will be available to purchase by both members and non-members.

The exclusive commemorative bottling is described as offering a “complex combination” of flavours, starting with notes of Sherry, clean smoke, figs, roasted chestnuts and Christmas spice combined with maple syrup-glazed pork ribs and HP sauce on bacon rolls.

On the palate, the whisky is said to taste of liquorice, coffee, Branston pickle, fig rolls, duck in plum sauce and “warm welly boots by a dying bonfire”.

“It’s the reduced palate’s hints of toasted almonds and barbecued meat which gives it the dark, smouldering flamenco,” the SMWS said in a statement.

With an abv of 57.1%, just 594 bottles are available to purchase at £80 for members and £120 for non-members.

The Glenmorangie Company sold the Scotch Malt Whisky Society in March this year.
