Skinnygirl Margarita ‘all-natural’ lawsuit dropped

A US consumer has dropped her lawsuit against Skinnygirl Cocktails, founded by reality TV star Bethenny Frankel, after arguing the brand was falsely advertised as “all-natural”.

Skinnygirl Cocktails, founded by reality TV Bethenny Frankel, has settled a recent lawsuit outside of court

Amy Langendorf , of Illinois, launched legal action against the low-calorie RTD brand, now owned by Beam Suntory, in 2011 stating while its Skinnygirl Margarita bottling claims to be “all-natural”, it actually contains sodium benzoate.

Langendorf sued SGC Global LLC, Real Housewives of New York City star Frankle and Beam Global Wine & Spirits LLC, now Beam Suntory, after Whole Foods grocery chain said it would no longer stock Skinnygirl Margarita.

As reported by the Chicago Tribune, both plaintiff and defendants have now agreed to drop the case and pay their own legal fees. Other terms of the agreement have not yet been disclosed.

Langendorf initially attempted to lodge a consumer class action against the brand, however a district judge denied the request since other class members could not be “easily identified”.

Beam Suntory could not be immediately reached for comment.

Earlier this year, Skinnygirl expanded its portfolio with the launch of a Spicy Lime Margarita RTD.

Speculation mounted that Fankel was planning to launch Skinnygirl Marijuana after she was spotted visiting a cannabis factory in January.

However it is thought the product would be entirely separate to the ready-to-drink cocktails, flavoured vodkas and low-calorie wines already under the Skinnygirl brand.
