Glenrothes distillery planning application withdrawn

A planning application for a new distillery in Glenrothes, Scotland, that would have created around 30 jobs has suddenly been withdrawn.

As reported by The Courier, Australian company Pure Scot Limited had submitted a planning application for the site in the Southfield Industrial Estate for permission to build a distillery and bottling hall.

Locals had anticipated the multi-million pound project would create approximately 30 full-time jobs and boost Fife’s position within the Scotch whisky industry.

Last week, though, it was revealed the planning application had been withdrawn for unconfirmed reasons.

Councillor Bill Brown described the news as a “blow to the town”.

“I am really disappointed to hear that the planned new distillery for Southfield is not going ahead,” he said.

“This new development was welcomed some months ago, with the promise of around 30 jobs.

“We really need to encourage new businesses to come to Glenrothes, especially after recent announcements regarding closures at Velux and Tullis Russell.”
