Kahlua Salted Caramel designed to spike iced coffees

Pernod Ricard has developed a new salted caramel flavour for its Kahlua rum liqueur brand, designed to “liven up” iced coffees this summer.

Kahlua Salted Caramel has been created to capture the spring/summer iced coffee market

Available across the US this spring, Kahlua Salted Caramel is said to combine the flavours of salted caramel with the classic coffee taste of Kahlua.

The release coincides with Kahlua’s nation-wide marketing campaign, Cocktail Your Coffee Day, which falls on 14 March and encourages consumers to spike their coffees with Kahlua.

Brian Mequet, vice president, rum and liqueurs, Pernod Ricard USA, said: “Kahlua is always committed to delivering innovative flavour offerings that take various drinking occasions to the next level.

“While staying true to the classic taste that consumers love, Kahlua Salted Caramel builds upon the success of our other limited edition flavours and offers new ways to enjoy classic cocktail favourites with an added twist.”

The 20% abv liqueur follows the release of Pumpkin Spice and Gingerbread flavours in 2013 and 2012 respectively.

Last month Pernod Ricard CEO Alexandre Ricard admitted the group had created “too many innovations” on its Malibu coconut-flavoured rum, which were blamed for a 5% decline in volume on the brand in the first half of 2014/15.

Kahlua Salted Caramel is available across the US for an RRP of US$17.99 per 750ml.
