Indian bartender wins Diageo World Class cruise competition

The cruise line bartender selected to go through to the Diageo World Class 2014 final has been named as Shekhar Grover of Royal Caribbean International.

Shekhar Grover of Royal Caribbean International, will compete at the Diageo World Class 2014 final

Grover, who originally hails from India, beat over 5,500 bartenders from across four cruise lines to the title, following an intense final held in Miami.

He was pipped against three peers in the final round – Carlos F Lintag from Princess Cruises, Agus Gandu Advana from Celebrity Cruises and O’Neil Anant James Pandit from Norwegian Cruise Line.

However, Grover’s proven drinks knowledge, skill and creativity impressed the judges, as did his signature drink, French Royale, featuring Ciroc Vodka.

He will now go through to represent the global travel industry in the 2014 Diageo World Class Finals in London from 28 July-1 August.

“I’m thrilled to win the World Class Global Travel Final and I’m very excited to be going forward to represent cruise-line bartenders at one of the industry’s most prestigious and respected mixology competitions,” Grover said.

“I’ve been inspired and challenged by many talented bartenders over the last few weeks and I’m really looking forward to using the skills and knowledge that I’ve developed through the program to wow the judges.”

Grover will compete against regional finalists from across the world in the global final, for a chance to take home the 2014 trophy.
