Regan asks bartenders to donate to Just One Shift
By Amy HopkinsRevered New York bartender Gaz Regan is calling on fellow bar workers across the world to donate one shift’s tips to charity.
Gaz Regan is calling for bartenders to participate in his Just One Shift event for charityRegan’s Just One Shift event, which was first launched in 2013, hopes to raise US$100,000 for Wine to Water, a non-profit organisation which aims to provide a clean water supply to those in need across the world.
The programme will take place on 12-18 May. On the first day, starting at 7pm, Regan will be a guest bartender at New York’s Dead Rabbit Grocery and Grog, donating any tips given.
In its inaugural year, 327 bartenders across 34 countries participated in Just One Shift, raising $40,000 in total, all of which went to Wine to Water.
The charity claims that this amount can save 40,000 people from death due to water-borne illness for a full year. In Uganda, US$40,000 can provide 10,000 people with clean water for 10 years.
“Bartenders can change the world and last year’s success has proved it,” said Regan, who has pledged to shave his head if the US$100,000 target is achieved.
Bartenders who sign up as participants will feature on the Just One Shift website and will be sorted by shifts. At the end of their shift, they can personally make the donation online.
