Buffalo Trace has released a commemorative single barrel Bourbon to remember its former master distiller Elmer T. Lee who died last year
Lee, who died aged 93, retired in 1985 after 36 years at Buffalo Trace Distillery but continued his work for the brand by travelling the world as a Bourbon ambassador for Buffalo Trace.
He created the world’s very first single barrel Bourbon in 1984, “revitalising the Bourbon industry”.
“We’re remarkably fortunate to have known Elmer,” said Kris Comstock, Bourbon marketing director. “His contributions to the Bourbon industry, Buffalo Trace Distillery and all our lives are countless.
“We want to honour our friend and give back to his family and his favourite cause, the Veterans of Foreign Wars.”
During World War II Lee served as a radar bombardier in the United Statees Army Air Corps (known today as the United States Air Force).
All profits from the sale of the commemorative edition Elmer T. Lee Bourbon will go to local VFW Post 4075, in which Elmer was active until the end.”
“The barrels selected for this Bourbon taste much the same as the standard Elmer T. Lee Bourbon in which he was so proud,” added Comstock. “Barrels were tasted and carefully evaluated by the team at Buffalo Trace to ensure each had the smooth and balanced sweetness that Elmer T. Lee Bourbon fans have come to love.”
Packaged in a square bottle akin to the standard Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel Bourbon, the commemorative edition displays a black label with Lee’s profile and signature embossed in gold. The reverse side of the bottle depicts Lee’s life and legacy.
The commemorative bottling of Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel Bourbon is being rolled out in stores this month at an RRP of US$34.99.
Buffalo Trace has said production of the standard Elmer T. Lee Bourbon will continue as barrels come of age and are “deemed worthy of Elmer and his legacy”.
