Diageo World Class UK final to take place on airplane

Diageo will once again host the World Class UK final on board a British Airways plane in its bid to find the World Class UK Bartender of the Year 2014.

Diageo will once again host the UK final of Diageo World Class on board a British Airways plane

Four finalists from some of the UK’s best bars will battle it out in the UK final in May, which will take place on one of BA’s new A380 aircrafts as it flies to Hong Kong.

“We are delighted to be partnering once again with British Airways as our shared commitment to delivering luxury and unique consumer experiences underpins the World Class Bartender of the Year competition,” commented nick Temperley, head of Diageo Reserve Brands UK.

“We are looking forward to raising the bar even further this year in our quest to find the World Class UK Bartender of the Year, who will be representing our country in the global final, on home turf, in July.”

To mark the collaboration, the 2013 winner of the competition, Gareth Evans, has created the official British Airways pre-flight cocktails, which will be served exclusively to First customers in the Concorde Room in Terminal 5 of London Heathrow.

The Tanqueray BA175, as it is called, will be served in a Champagne flute and is made from 25ml grapefruit juice, 25ml apricot liqueur, 25ml Tanqueray No. Ten gin and topped with Champagne.

“It is an honour to have my cocktail served in this iconic destination within Heathrow,” said Evans. “When people started flying many years ago it was common to enjoy cocktails on board and pre-flight.

“It’s great that British Airways is celebrating our current ‘golden era’ for cocktails by supporting World Class and serving world class cocktails in their Concorde Room.”
