Scotch Whisky Experience reports record visitors
The Scotch Whisky Experience has recorded its highest ever visitor numbers as whisky fans from emerging markets flock to the Edinburgh attraction.
Around 300,000 people visited The Scotch Whisky Experience in 2013
The centre saw 300,000 people pass through its doors in 2013, an increase of 11.5% on 2012.
Over three quarters of those visitors were from outside the UK, with a vast majority attending from some of Scotch’s key emerging markets.
The number of visitors from India grew by 29%, while those from Brazil and China grew 26% and 20% respectively.
Julie Trevisan-Hunter, head of marketing at The Scotch Whisky Experience, said: “We had our best year ever in 2012, so we were truly astounded to top these numbers in 2013.”
The highest proportion of visitors to The Scotch Whisky Experience were from the US, France and Germany.
More than half of visitors embarked on the centre’s iconic whisky barrel tour, while purchases made in its on-site shop increased by 25%.
Trevisan-Hunter added that the growth in figures were all achieved while the attraction’s Amber Restaurant and Bar was closed for renovation during the first three months of 2013.
“We don’t rest on our laurels though and are always looking for ways to improve the visitor experience, with the final stages of our five year renovation process currently underway.
“2014 is a big year for Scotland and we look forward to welcoming visitors from across the globe to learn about one of Scotland’s most famous exports.”
