Tales of the Cocktail has announced a fresh line-up of seminars for its 2014 festival
The New Orleans-based cocktail festival will feature 74 new seminars to “offer opportunities to learn about practically every aspect of the cocktail and spirits industries from some of the biggest names in the business”.
Two new series of seminars dedicated to tasting and technique have been agreed to offer a more hands-on approach to learning.
Small-group ‘exclusive tasting seminars’ will give attendees the opportunity to taste and learn about rare and hard-to-find spirits.
Seminars in this series include: Baijiu Tasting, The Ultimate Deconstruction of Scotch, Limited Edition and Vintage Rums, and The Art of Eau de Vie.
Meanwhile, new ‘technique seminars’ will allow classes of no more than 50 people the chance to learn innovative bartending techniques by industry leaders.
Seminars in this series include: Absinthe Lab, It’s Time to Talk about Temperature, The Old Fashioned: The First Classic, and The Philosophy of Drinks Presentation.
Noted speakers include Dave Broom, Jacob Briars, Tristan Stephenson, Meaghan Dorman, and Helmut Adam, among others.
The new line-up of seminars had been voted on by a committee of 42 judges from around the world.
Philip Duff, Tales of the Cocktail’s director of education and chairman of the 2014 seminar committee said: “After two rounds of evaluations, which included requesting rewrites of proposals that the committee felt would benefit from a second go-around, the committee is confident that the seminars chosen to be presented at Tales 2014 represent the freshest insights, most rigorous research, most compelling material and most captivating speakers in the whole world of cocktails and bars.”
Tales of the Cocktail also recent announced that its Spirited Awards was now open for nominations.
