Old Forester Bourbon makes UK debut

Brown-Forman is launching its Old Forester Bourbon in the UK, marking the first time the whiskey has been available outside the US.

Old Forester Bourbon has never been available outside the US before

The Kentucky straight Bourbon, which has a wide fan base in the States, will be distributed in the UK through Mangrove.

The first Bourbon to be commercially bottled in the US, and the oldest brand in continuous production, Old Forester was sold during Prohibition for medicinal purposes.

The brand was founded in 1870 by George Garvin Brown, who went onto set up the Brown-Forman Corporation.

With a mash bill of 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malted barley, the Bourbon is bottled at 43% abv and is described as having a bold, spicy flavour. It’s produced by master distiller Chris Morris at the Brown-Forman distillery in Shively, Kentucky.

Nick Gillett, managing director of Mangrove, said: “I am delighted to represent such an iconic brand, it is an honour to represent the Brown family and the product on which the Brown-Forman company was founded.

“Old Forester exemplifies our unique approach to product selection – it’s is a perfect addition to the Mangrove portfolio, it broadens our range and further strengthens our position in the premium and specialist sectors”.

Old Forester has already begun rolling out to key UK on- and off-trade accounts, at an RRP of £49.99.
