Diageo launches bar academy in Australia
In preparation for the Diageo Reserve World Class bartender competition, Diageo Australia has launched a bartender development programme to prepare bartenders for what’s in store.
Diageo Australia has announced the launch of its bartender training programme – Diageo Bar Academy
The Diageo Bar Academy is made up of three training levels with the first due to start in February.
The foundation level will be formed of four 90-minute sessions focusing on bartending basics, including essential spirits, essential techniques, speed and efficiency and an essential guide to cocktails.
Not only will bartenders learn about serving quality drinks and providing excellent customer service, they will also be educated on patron and staff safety, including the responsible service of alcohol.
Through creative workshops, a hands-on aromatic blending session and whisky session, bartenders will also be taught about single malts, vodka, rum and gin.
The advanced level is tailored for the industry’s more experienced bartenders, including soem modules which have been designed by some of the most respected professionals in the drinks industry.
According to Hospitality Magazine Australia, David Halliday, the commercial director at Diageo Australia, said the company holds the bartender in high regard.
“At Diageo, we believe the bartender is the critical ingredient in creating world-class drinks and fantastic drinking experiences,” he explained.
“We’re a constant champion of fine drinking and it is the combination of our acclaimed brands and highly-skilled bartenders that make this possible.”
He added the program is evidence of the importance Diageo Australia places on developing competent bartenders.
“Following on from the award-winning Alchemy training program, Diageo Bar Academy highlights Diageo’s endless commitment to fostering talent for our on-premise partners, as we aim to make the best drinks and safe drinking experiences possible.”
