Bacardi on track to achieve green targets

Bacardi Limited is moving in the right direction to reach its environmental targets, according to the company’s latest annual Corporate Responsibility (CR) report.

Barcardi Limited has published its 2013 annual Corporate Responsibility report

The company has set itself a long-term goal to source 100% of its sugarcane-derived products from sustainable sources by 2022 and claims it is “already on track” to reach its 40% goal by 2017.

Since 2006, Bacardi has reduced its energy use by more than 25% and its water use by 54% – the equivalent of 10.3 million people showering.

Over the fiscal year, the organisation’s total waste to landfill decreased by 35% with 98.6% of Bacardi waste being recycled, reused or recovered.

“Bacardi Limited is committed to the responsible management of all business activities,” said Ed Shirley, president and CEO of Bacardi Limited.

“We aim to be best-in-class in Corporate Responsibility in the spirits industry and believe that, through responsibly managing our environmental impacts, Bacardi will be a more sustainable business in the long-term.”

The report also revealed the company has pledged 10 initiatives to be carried out over the next five years, which aim to reinforce Bacardi’s responsible drinking and marketing initiatives in its role as a member of the Global Alcohol Producers Group (GAPG).
