Diageo suffers £70,000 spirits theft
By Amy HopkinsOver £70,000 worth of Diageo-owned spirits have been stolen from a UK haulage site before the bottles were transported to Manchester airport.
Thousands of pounds worth of Gordon’s Gin, Bailey’s, Bell’s Whiskey, and Smirnoff Blue Vodka were lifted from a UK haulage siteEarlier this month, thieves entered a small family-run haulage yard in the village of Tewitfield, near Lancaster, and lifted 1,314 bottles of Gordon’s gin, 912 bottles and 120 half bottles of Baileys Irish Cream, 744 bottles of Bell’s Original Whiskey and 540 bottles of Smirnoff Blue Vodka.
The culprits had forced open the metal roller shutter to the warehouse, and then removed a full pallet of boxed stock. It is thought by police that they made their escape through a neighbouring field.
“The premises have clearly been deliberately targeted and those responsible would have been on site for some time to facilitate this burglary,” said DC Jill Neil, of Lancaster CID.
“I would appeal to anybody with any information about this burglary or whereabouts of this alcohol to contact police. The alcohol is distinctive as it is in plastic bottles and was intended to be dropped off at Manchester airport for duty free sale.”
Those with information about the incident should contact Lancashire Police on 101.
