Glenfiddich Malt Mastermind announced

Till Britze, of The Last Word, Edinburgh, has been named Glenfiddich Malt Mastermind 2013 following a close final held at the Scotch brand’s distillery.

Till Britze beat off competition from six other finalists to be named Glenfiddich Malt Mastermind 2013

Against the competition of six other finalists, Britze demonstrated his mixing skills and whisky knowledge to a panel of judges, which included Brian Kinsman, master blender for brand owner William Grant & Sons, whisky expert Mark Thompson and last year’s winner Lee Potter Cavanagh.

Finalists were required to create a classic Rob Roy cocktail with a modern twist and a signature serve using Glenfiddich 12, 15 or 18 Year Old, as well as partake in a quiz which tested their knowledge of the malt category.

Britze’s winning signature serve, called Ruadh damh (Red Stag), consisted of Glenfiddich 18 Year Old, Spiced Damson Reduction, Benedictine, and Boker’s Bitters with a skewered plum and grapefruit twist.

“The Malt Mastermind was an exciting line-up of some of the finest talent in the bar industry,” said Sarah Harding, senior brand manager for Glenfiddich. “It was a tough call whittling down the finalists to one winner but Till Britze was a firm favourite with the judges and demonstrated a real passion for malt whisky and an extremely creative flair with his Red Stag serve.”
