Lakes brings chocolate-inspired single malt to UK

Nyetimber-owned English distillery The Lakes has launched its limited edition Chocolatier whisky in the UK.

Following its debut in Australia as a limited release available exclusively for The Whisky Club, Chocolatier is now available for the first time in the UK.

The Sherry cask-matured Chocolatier draws inspiration from the ‘refined palate and creative mind’ of the master chocolatier, blending whisky with the ‘precision of fine chocolate’.

Bottled at 51% ABV, it offers aromas of milk chocolate infused with butterscotch and cacao, with subtle notes of peach, dried fruits, and brandy snaps.

The palate displays notes of wood spices, soft fruits, spiced hot chocolate, toasted oak, vanilla, pineapple, and dried fruits, leading to a finish with dark chocolate.

Eric Heerema, owner and CEO of Nyetimber Group, commented on the release: “The launch of Chocolatier single malt whisky in the UK comes at a very exciting time. Chocolatier is a prime example of how élevage and the meticulous care of whiskymakers can help to develop incredible tapestries of flavour.”

The Lakes Chocolatier is now available in the UK exclusively at Amathus stores nationwide and online, as well as on the distillery’s website, with an RRP of £95 (US$127).

Established in 2011, The Lakes Distillery is located in Cockermouth in the northwest of England.

Nyetimber acquired the distillery for £71 million (US$89m) in the summer of 2024.

A year later, The Lakes unveiled its first permanent single malt expression, Signature, followed by Brendan McCarron’s appointment as the distillery’s new whisky maker.

Earlier this year, Nyetimber closed The Lakes Distillery’s visitor centre, putting 15 jobs at risk.
