Starward finished in Lagavulin casks lands in UK
Australian distillery Starward and Speciality Brands will introduce the distillery’s Lagavulin cask-finished single malt to the UK market.

Starward x Lagavulin will be available to UK consumers in March, more than two years after its debut, at selected partners.
The limited edition single malt was finished in ex-Lagavulin peated Scotch whisky casks from Islay.
The team sourced barrels from the Diageo-owned Scottish distillery, blending Starward’s signature red wine barrel-matured whisky’s tropical notes of red berries, soft spice, and vanilla with the earthy coastal peat from Lagavulin barrels.
Bottled at 48% ABV, the result is an Australian single malt that opens with aromas of yellow nectarine, peat, pineapple, andiodine. On the palate, it displays notes of tropical, char-grilled pineapple, black tea, and a touch of brine.
David Vitale, founder of Starward Distillery, said: “My earliest inspiration for Starward was to create a deliciously distinctive whisky, and while we certainly hit that brief with our red wine barrel matured whisky, what whisky better epitomises distinctively delicious than Lagavulin?
“Sourcing these barrels to create this exciting expression gives us a magical moment to celebrate the very best of Australian curiosity and Scottish tradition.”
Starward x Lagavulin will be available from March onwards at selected partners in on and off-trade via Speciality Brands, with a recommended retail price of £125 (US$169).
Last year, The Spirits Business interviewed Starward’s head distiller and head blender, Carlie Dyer, about her move from wine to whisky.
Last month, Starward confirmed that Diageo’s Distill Ventures accelerator programme will no longer be involved in the business.
