Lalo releases still-strength blanco Tequila

Tequila brand Lalo has released its first distilled-to-proof expression, 2025 High Proof Blanco, which is bottled at 50% ABV.

Lalo Tequila, which commits to a blanco-only approach, released its first high-proof Tequila last year. This expression was bottled at 54% ABV to capture the spirit at its ‘purest essence’.

Citing Nielsen data, the brand claims the 2024 High Proof Blanco was the number-one-selling high-proof Tequila during its time in market.

This year, however, founder Eduardo ‘Lalo’ González has lowered the proof to 50% ABV. The expression has had no water added after the distillation, and is the brand’s first release under what it calls the ‘distilled to proof’ method.

González said: “Lalo’s foundation is built on a deep respect for the agave plant, which is a value passed down to me from my father and grandfather, who were both Tequila makers.

“Our 2025 High Proof honours that heritage and tradition while celebrating the dynamic flavour of the agave. This expression means a lot to me because it captures the Tequila industry’s shift towards innovation and authenticity, values that inspire us at Lalo and have allowed us to grow the brand while staying true to our roots.”

The expression’s profile is said to bring green vegetal notes to the nose, including spicy jalapeño and hints of mint and white pepper. The palate is described as ‘full-bodied and silky’ with earthy tones and olive brine. The high ABV is said to add ‘depth without heat’. Lastly, the finish sees agave sweetness, peppery spice and a touch of salinity linger.

As with Lalo’s flagship blanco and last year’s High Proof edition, this expression is also made from three ingredients: water from Jalisco, highland agave also handpicked from Jalisco, and Champagne yeast.

Lalo 2025 High Proof Blanco is available in 41 US states in limited quantities for a suggested retail price of US$74.99 per 750ml bottle.
