Old Grand-Dad unveils 7YO bonded Bourbon

James B Beam Distilling, the home of Jim Beam, has released its annual Old Grand-Dad seven-year-old Bourbon.

The new expression is bottled in bond and was barrelled in spring 2018. The Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897 requires whiskey to be produced from a single distillation season in a single distillery, aged for at least four years, and bottled at a minimum of 50% ABV.

Bottled at 50% ABV, the Bourbon offers aromas of caramel and vanilla, joined on the palate by charred oak notes. The expression is said to be ‘historically inspired by vintage releases”.

The new release retails for around US$39.99 and joins the brand’s Bonded and 114 core range expressions. Last year, Old Grand-Dad released a limited edition 16-year-old in the US.

Old Grand-Dad was founded in 1882. James B Beam Distilling acquired the label in 1987.

Compared with its older expressions, today the brand makes its whiskeys using a high-rye recipe.

In addition to Old Grand-Dad and Jim Beam Bourbons, the distillery bottles 11 other brands, including Basil Hayden, Knob Creek, and Booker’s.

In December last year, James B Beam Distilling launched its Beam Private Barrel Club single barrel programme for consumers.
