Dekantā was founded in June 2015 as an online retailer offering an extensive range of Japanese spirits.

Since its founding, Dekantā has launched its own independent bottling range featuring rare single malts and exclusive blends, and a cask ownership scheme in partnership with Japanese whisky makers.

Dekantā founder Makiyo Masa said: “As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, we reflect with gratitude on the journey we’ve taken and the community that has supported us.

“From our valued customers and talented partners to the incredible distilleries and artists we work with, this milestone belongs to all of you. We look forward to continuing our mission of bringing the best whiskies from Japan to the rest of the world.”

To mark the occasion, Dekantā has released a single cask Japanese whisky created at the Wakatsuru Saburomaru Distillery in the city of Tonami, located in the Toyama prefecture.

The whisky has been aged for more than six years in a first-fill Bourbon barrel. It was distilled in 2018 and bottled in 2025 with an ABV of 56%.

The resulting liquid offers an aroma of coastal smoke, Islay peat laced with sea air and notes of toasted marshmallow, vanilla pod, and charred coconut.

The palate brings a bold, oily texture with notes of driftwood embers and scorched herbs. The roasted first-fill Bourbon casks present layers of crème brûlée, grilled banana, and cinnamon bark swirl with dark chocolate and cracked black pepper.

The Wakatsuru Saburomaru 6 Years Old Dekantā Exclusive whisky is priced at US$219 and available to buy from the Dekantā website. Only 195 bottles are available.

Dekantā has seen demand for Japanese whisky sit at a stable rate, according to operations director Liam Hiller.

Japanese whisky exports have recently slowed after years of growth.
