Smokehead unveils 15YO single malt

Ian Macleod Distillers-owned Islay whisky brand Smokehead has introduced a 15-year-old single malt to its portfolio.

Smokehead 15-year-old is described as a ‘bolder and older’ expression than any other in the range

First introduced to the market in 2006 by Ian Macleod Distillers, Smokehead Islay single malt was designed to appeal to a younger and more unconventional whisky audience, through its ‘distinctive’ brand image and packaging.

The new 15-year-old is the brand’s oldest single malt available, following in the footsteps of its discontinued Extra Black 18-year-old expression.

Smokehead 15-year-old joins the brand’s portfolio of non-age-statement whiskies, which includes Tequila cask-finished Terminado, Sherry cask-influenced Blast, partially stout cask-finished Twisted Stout, and rum cask-finished Rebel.

Karen Walker, brand director for Smokehead Whisky, said: “This Islay single malt is our most outspoken expression and is in keeping with the rest of the Smokehead collection.

“Its peaty, citrus, and smoky notes take the Smokehead concept to an exciting new level and one which will appeal to those who are adventurous and who don’t stay within boundaries.”

Offered at 43% ABV, the single malt displays notes of peat smoke, vanilla ice cream, sweet citrus, lemon zest, and brine.

Smokehead 15-year-old is now available globally, including in the UK, with a recommended retail price of £69.99 (US$94) for a 700ml bottle.

In addition to Smokehead, Ian Macleod Distillers’ whisky portfolio includes single malt brands Rosebank, Tamdhu, and Glengoyne.

Last year, the company partnered with independent bottling company The Islay Boys to build the Laggan Bay distillery on the Isle of Islay. The new facility is expected to open later this year.
