Smokehead finishes whisky in Tequila casks

Ian Macleod Distillers has released a Smokehead Islay single malt whisky finished in Tequila casks.

Smokehead-Tequila-Terminado
The Tequila Cask Terminado sits at 43% ABV

Smokehead Tequila Cask Terminado is said to offer flavours of smoke mixed with ‘chewy meringue’, fresh blood orange and barbecued pineapple. Tasting notes also include toffee, lime and peaches, leading to a long, sweet finish with heat.

Bottled at 43% ABV, the Scotch whisky is available to purchase exclusively via Amazon and smokehead.com, priced at RRP £68.99 (US$83) per 700ml bottle.

Iain Weir, brand director, said: “Smokehead is a brand that constantly pushes the boundaries of what a single malt whisky is – and how it’s perceived.

“By embracing contemporary methods of finishing, we’re at the forefront of innovation – both as a brand and within the industry at large. All for the benefit of our valued customers.

“Tequila Cask Terminado is more than a passion project for us. It’s an embodiment of everything Smokehead stands for. Rule-breaking, ‘pouring less boring’ and defiance.”

To support the launch of the Tequila cask-finished whisky, the brand has also released an advert featuring two skeleton puppets dancing together.

Earlier this year, Smokehead created The Smoker Sidebar, a mobile bar attached to a motorbike, which toured Europe.

In other whisky news, The Macallan extended its Red Collection with the release of a 77-year-old bottling, priced at US$87,000.
