Old Dominick releases single cask wheat whiskey

Tennessee-based Old Dominick Distillery has added a seven-year-old single barrel wheat whiskey to its portfolio.

The new straight wheat whiskey release is the Memphis-based distillery’s third mashbill. The mashbill consists of 83% wheat, 12% corn, and 5% malted barley.

The liquid is aged in West Tennessee white oak barrels.

Lead distiller David Valentine said: “This is the first wheat whiskey to be distilled in Memphis since Prohibition. The seven-year age statement reflects our patience and commitment to quality.

“It is noticeably different from our Bourbon and Tennessee whiskey. It is softer, with notes of maple syrup, honey, hazelnut, and mocha.”

The release is available as select barrel picks, which can be purchased from the distillery and retail locations in Memphis and the greater south-east from today (11 April). It will retail for between US$60 and $70, depending on the location.

The distillery will offer Bourbon clubs nationwide the opportunity to purchase the wheat whiskey online.

Clark Schifani, sales director at Old Dominick Distillery, added: “We’re beyond excited to introduce our wheat whiskey to the fans of Old Dominick and hopefully add a few new ones in the process. This release is a testament to our dedication to quality and craftsmanship.”

Domenico Canale founded Old Dominick Distillery in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1866. In 2017, Canale’s fifth-generation grandsons Chris and Alex resurrected the distillery in the heart of the city.

In addition to Bourbon, Tennessee whiskey, and now wheat whiskey, the distillery produces brands such as Formula No 1 Gin, Honeybell Citrus Vodka, and Memphis Vodka.
