Buffalo Trace shuts distillery due to flooding
Heavy rain throughout the state of Kentucky has caused Frankfort-based Buffalo Trace Distillery to flood.
The state of Kentucky has experienced historic levels of rain this past week, resulting in severe floods and weather-related emergencies.
Over the weekend, images emerged on social media showing the Buffalo Trace Distillery gift shop submerged in water and on Sunday (6 April) the distillery released a statement announcing that it would be temporarily closing until at least Thursday (10 April).
“As of today, Buffalo Trace Distillery is closed and will not be accessible to either consumers or team members,” the statement read. “We will be closed through Thursday, 10 April at a minimum.
“As this is a rapidly unfolding situation, visits may be impacted beyond that time and we will continue to provide updates as they are available.
“Due to the unprecedented and ongoing rain and flooding, we are not able to advise on the impact to our total distillery footprint. We will assess those realities in the coming days as the facilities become safe to navigate and will make necessary adjustments to operations as required.
“Our thoughts are with the local community and all those impacted by this natural disaster. Updates regarding operating hours and forthcoming relief initiatives will be made via Instagram.”
Other distilleries in Frankfort, such as Glenn’s Creek, have also experienced flooding. Castle & Key Distillery, also located in Frankfort, plans to remain open this week, weather and safety permitting.
