Dead Rabbit to open New Orleans bar in 2020

New York bar The Dead Rabbit will open a sister site in New Orleans next year, the first venue to launch as part of a “wider expansion plan” across major US cities.

The Dead Rabbit will open in New Orleans next year

Irish bartenders Sean Muldoon and Jack McGarry opened The Dead Rabbit in New York in 2013. The award-winning Irish-themed bar was followed by a second New York venue, Cuban-inspired BlackTail, in 2016.

The New Orleans bar will be the duo’s first venue outside New York and will retain The Dead Rabbit’s “unique blend of Irish hospitality”. The site will be based on the New York drinking den’s informal ground-floor pub, The Taproom.

A post on The Dead Rabbit’s Facebook page yesterday (21 October) said: “We’ve got some news. What was it again now? Oh yes. We’re opening a second Dead Rabbit – next year in New Orleans! It’s part of a wider expansion plan that will see us bring our unique blend of Irish hospitality to major cities across the US over the next few years.

“We’ll own and run all the new bars, which will be based on our Taproom. We’ve already got the New Orleans premises sorted out and plans are well advanced. Of course, we’ll keep you updated in the months ahead.”

When speaking with The Spirits Business in 2018, Muldoon and McGarry teased plans to expand their operation in New York. This was followed by the opening of an extension at Dead Rabbit and an outdoor terrace bar at BlackTail constructed from repurposed shipping containers.
