Dead Rabbit founders to open third venue

As New York’s Dead Rabbit celebrates its fifth anniversary, founders Sean Muldoon and Jack McGarry have announced plans to open their third venue.

Sean Muldoon and Jack McGarry hope to open their third venue at Pier A in New York

The Dead Rabbit and Blacktail owners were speaking to SB earlier this week when they announced that they are planning to open a new venue later this year.

Muldoon said: “Pier A, the building that BlackTail is a part of, we’re going to be getting a lot more involved in that, because there’s a lot of opportunity there.

“The space looks right out at the Statue of Liberty and over the Hudson, and right now it’s the most under-utilised bar space in the whole of Manhattan. There’s room for an amazing bar in that space and that’s going to be our next project.”

The Pier A building complex covers 28,000 square feet on the bank of the Hudson in downtown New York and currently houses Muldoon and McGarry’s BlackTail, as well as an oyster bar and two other venues.

Plans for the new bar are still in the early stages, but the pair hopes to open the venue before the end of the year.

Muldoon said: “We don’t even have a concept drawn up yet. We’re still in the very early stages but it’ll be one for this year.

“We have our design team flying in next week from Ireland to talk to us about the space. It’s a big, big space with an upstairs, downstairs, outside and an adjoining events space. It would be a big project.”

As well as the new bar, the pair are also expanding the Dead Rabbit, which first opened its doors in 2013.
