Last Drop Distillers to release first single malt

The Last Drop Distillers is set to launch its very first single malt Scotch whisky – a £4,600 (US$7,000) The Last Drop 1967 Single Malt Glen Garioch.

The Last Drop 1967 Single Malt Glen Garioch is the first single malt whisky from The Last Drop Distillers

The single malt has been aged in a “Bourbon-style” remade hogshead cask for the last 47 years to deliver a whisky offering “honeyed sweetness, with a hint of apple freshness and subtle smokiness”.

Just 118 bottles have been created from one barrel, each filled by hand, unfiltered, at cask strength of 45.46% abv.

Each bottle has been numbered and packaged in a dark chocolate brown leather case lined with cream, soft suede with The Last Drop Distillers signature 50ml miniature and a pocket sized leather bound information and tasting book.

On the nose, the expression is described as giving aromas of whisky-soaked fruitcake and marzipan, honey and vanilla, with apple and a “subtle” smokiness.

The palate is said to offer flavours of ripe guava and almonds, leading to tastes of blackcurrant and apricot.

The Last Drop 1967 Single Malt Glen Garioch will be available in the UK from retailers including Fine & Rare Wines, Davidoff and The Whisky Shop.

In March, The Last Drop Distillers launched just 592 bottles of its fourth limited edition expression – a 48-year-old blended Scotch whisky.
