New app allows users to ‘visually taste’ spirits
By Annie HayesNew “multi-sensory drinking experience” app Flaviar has launched, giving users “a way to taste what’s inside the bottle before trying it” from a database of more than 10,000 spirits.
The app is advertised as “the IMDb for spirits”The new smartphone app is marketed as “the IMDb for spirits”, and provides the user with a rating of the chosen spirit, information about the distillery, production methods, and a personalised Flavour Spiral – a visual depiction of each of the tasting notes.
Flaviar commissioned an artist to draw 252 flavour components for the Flavour Spiral, which are organised into one screen to show the balance of the drink and help users detect and recognise flavours.
“We all hate that feeling of insecurity when looking at shelves full of bottles, trying to decide what to get. Prices, labels and bottle shapes can’t tell me if I’m going to like the drink or not,” says Flaviar co-founder Grisa Soba.
“That’s why we made the Flaviar App – to give people the best insights possible on what to expect. It’s the closest to tasting a drink before actually tasting it.
“After having worked for almost three years on finding the perfect way to visualise a drink’s flavours, their dynamics and gathering data, we are convinced that the Flavour Spiral is what drinkers of fine spirits have been missing. We want this App to be your IMDb for liquor!”
The app also allows users to save and manage their personal collection of favourite drinks, order directly from the app and have drinks delivered to their doorstep.
Flaviar also offers “curated Tasting Packs” made up of various spirits samples.
It is available for free on the Apple app store and will soon be made available on Android.
Earlier this year an app which allows customers to pay their bill at bars and restaurants via their smartphone was launched across the UK.
