Lindores Abbey release quadruples on Sherry

Fife-based Lindores Abbey Distillery has unveiled a single malt expression called Nectere, which is aged in four different types of Sherry casks.

Named after the Latin word ‘conectere’ meaning ‘to connect’, the new release is said to celebrate modern whisky-making techniques in Scotland’s ‘spiritual home of whisky’.

The expression is inspired by the monks who first distilled at the Abbey in 1494, reflecting the evolving tradition of Sherry production throughout Spain. The Fife barley used in Nectere is cultivated on land previously farmed by the monks of Lindores Abbey.

The single malt Scotch whisky is aged in a combination of four types of Sherry casks: oloroso, Pedro Ximénez (PX), amontillado, and Palo Cortado, each bringing its own unique layer to the whisky.

The result is a layered, full-bodied, and Sherry-driven single malt with a deep mahogany colour.

It opens with aromas of sweet treacle, red apples, vanilla custard cream, and cinnamon. On the palate, it reveals mellow molasses, chocolate-covered raisins, nutty macaroons, toffee, and warming spices, finishing with hints of nutmeg and cinnamon.

Distillery manager Gary Haggart noted: “Taking a product such as Nectere from concept to customer is a rare opportunity in our industry. It represents the culmination of immense hard work, creativity, determination and collaboration, while reflecting the very best of us as a team and as a distillery.

“Nectere stands as a testament to what can be achieved when talented people come together with a shared purpose and commitment to excellence.”

Lindores Abbey Nectere sits at 47.2% ABV and retails for £65 (US$86). It will be available from 25 June.
