1689 Dutch Orange Gin lands in UK
The Amsterdam Craft Gin Company will launch 1689 Dutch Orange Gin in the UK this month.
The orange-coloured gin made its debut in the Netherlands in March.
Dutch Orange Gin is characterised by fruity, refined citrus aromas that add a twist to the classic gin and tonic.
The new expression is available in three formats – 700ml, 500ml and 50ml – and sits at 40% ABV.
Gin 1689 was founded by Alexander Janssens and Patrick van der Peet in 2018 following research into the origins of gin in the British Library’s archives.
After 18 months of research, they uncovered one of the earliest gin recipes, which they used to bring their brand to life.
The gin’s name is said to pay homage to the genuine 17th-century recipe, which dates back to the period when William of Orange became King of England and popularised gin throughout the country.
Produced in partnership with ‘one of the leading’ Dutch craft distilleries, the brand’s Dutch Dry Gin debuted in the Netherlands and the UK, and was followed by the launch of Dutch Pink Gin.
Gin 1689 has since expanded its availability to more than 30 markets across four continents.
Janssens said: “With Dutch Orange Gin, we’re not just serving a flavourful spirit — we’re letting people taste history. The authentic 300‑year‑old recipe lives on in every glass. That, to me, is the essence of Gin 1689.”
