Witchmark hopes to reach a 4,000-cask inventory by 2027

Witchmark Distillery, founded in 2020 by Alistair Munro and Jon Carson, is making ‘significant’ progress toward the release of its first whisky, scheduled for 2027.

Eddie Large, co-founder and production director of Witchmark, commented on the distillery’s latest milestone: “Reaching our 1,000th cask is a huge milestone, but for me it’s not really about the cask itself, it’s about the people who have made it happen.

“We’ve built a young, diverse and talented team with members hailing from all around the world, from India to Poland, England to New Zealand, each bringing their own passion and expertise to the distillery floor to produce quality English whisky.

“We’ve been filling casks for the past 18 months, but the journey really started back in 2020 when we first set out to create an English whisky. So, this moment represents years of work, planning and belief, and we’re only just getting started.”

By 2027, the distillery hopes to fill an additional 3,000 casks.

Witchmark’s wood programme features a diverse cask strategy, including Tawny Port, Madeira, rum, and Islay casks.

Nestled in a Grade II-listed 17th-century barn on the Fonthill Estate, the distillery’s walls still bear the ancient witch marks that inspired its name.

B Corp-certified Witchmark produces whisky using barley grown on the estate and water that is naturally filtered through limestone in a chalk aquifer near the still house.

Last year, the distillery released a new make spirit as a preview of its future single malt.

Witchmark’s current spirits portfolio includes London Dry Single Origin English Gin, Black Lime Single Origin English Gin, Wiltshire Single Origin English Gin, and Single Origin English Vodka.

The spirits are available in the UK through retailers such as Selfridges, Berry Bros & Rudd, and Amathus.
