Mad Tropikal spirits festival launches in Madrid
By Miona MadsenThe Rum Lab’s Federico Hernández has partnered with Madrid Whisky Club to host a one-day spirits experience in the Spanish capital in June.

Mad Tropikal aims to transform the traditional expo format into an immersive ‘tropical theme park’ designed for modern tastes and leisure seekers.
The one-day experience is a collaboration between Hernández, founder of The Rum Lab, and Eduardo Jiménez, founder of Holy Drop cocktail and whisky bar and the Madrid Whisky Club.
Taking place on 20 June at the Caleido centre, Mad Tropikal combines education and entertainment. The event seeks to strengthen the Spanish city’s role as a leading destination for global spirits culture.
The event marks a significant evolution from previous editions, taking inspiration from Hernández’s festival in Puerto Rico to create a more dynamic atmosphere.
The festival is divided into four distinct sections: the first is the third edition of Spain Rum & Gin Expo, a dedicated space for discovering and tasting premium rums and gins, featuring expert-led masterclasses and label debuts.
WhiskyLands Experience Summer Edition is tailored for whisky enthusiasts and professionals to explore rare expressions and global brands.
Mojito Garden is a high-energy, ‘free-to-access’ area open from 2pm to 8pm, where local venues compete for the title of ‘Best Mojito’ amid live music and a retro-tropical vibe.
Finally, the Alquimia Hub serves as an educational centre, hosting seminars and industry talks that transition into an exclusive cigar and whisky lounge in the evening.
Seminars will be held from 1pm to 5pm, while tasting sessions are available from 2pm to 7pm.
Mad Tropikal offers an entertainment lineup, including The Latin Ensemble, which pays tribute to Marc Anthony, and rock tributes to Queen.
Additionally, there will be a stream of DJs, live tropical bands, and curated food pairings throughout the Caleido complex.
Tickets to Mad Tropikal are now available on the event’s official website.
