DropWorks ages rum in Bordeaux wine casks
English rum distillery DropWorks has unveiled the second limited edition expression in its Distiller’s Drops series, which has been aged for 28 months in Bordeaux red wine casks.
The second hand-selected rum in the series follows the Distiller’s Drops’ sold-out debut in November 2025.
The latest limited drop is said to be a unique example of modern British rum, crafted at the DropWorks distillery and selected from its barrel store located in the heart of Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire.
Lewis Hayes, founder and master distiller of DropWorks, commented: “The initial launch of our Distiller’s Drop #001 was a huge success, with rum enthusiasts and eager spirit explorers snapping up the first limited release within hours.
“Since opening our doors in 2023, everything has been building towards our exclusive Drop series, and we’re excited to be able to continue to explore the distinct flavours that different casks can impart on rum with the introduction of Distiller’s Drop #002.”
Limited to 900 bottles, Distiller’s Drop #002 is a small-batch cask release bottled at 50.7% ABV.
The British-made rum has been matured for 28 months in Bordeaux red wine casks, imparting notes of wild strawberries, black pepper, and caramelised crème brûlée to the spirit.
Hayes added: “The vibrant, fruity and caramel notes infused into this drop by the Bordeaux cask show the real diversity of rum.
“With its limited availability, I recommend enjoying it neat, or over ice, to fully experience its flavours. However, it can also be used to beautifully elevate classic cocktails such as an Old Fashioned.”
Official reveal
While the Distiller’s Drop #002 has already won Gold in The Rum and Cachaça Masters 2026, it will make its official debut at an exclusive event at the Black Parrot in London on Tuesday 17 March.
Participants will engage in an in-depth exploration of the limited edition Drop during a guided tasting led by Hayes.
Guests will also receive an exclusive insight into the story behind the latest release, including details about the production process and the selection of barrels that contribute to the rum’s distinctive character.
DropWorks Distiller’s Drop #002 will be released to the public on Monday 23 March.
Investors who supported the brand during its crowdfunding campaign last year will have access to the presale for Distiller’s Drop #002, which begins on Wednesday 18 March.
Additionally, email subscribers will receive early access a few days later that week, ahead of the public.
