Following World Water Day 2026, which was celebrated on 22 March, the brand is approaching the first anniversary of its One Sip, One Day initiative.

Established last year by Desi Daru in partnership with the global non-profit, Charity: Water, the initiative aims to provide clean, safe drinking water to every person on the planet.

Since partnering with Charity: Water one year ago, B Corp-certified Desi Daru has reached the halfway point of its first rainwater harvesting project in India, with completion expected later this year.

Through the One Sip, One Day initiative, every 25ml of Desi Daru Vodka is said to provide clean drinking water for one person for an entire day. A full bottle will supply water for a whole month.

The funds raised go directly to Charity: Water’s rainwater harvesting programme in the Jharkhand and Odisha regions of India, in collaboration with the local organisation Gram Vikas.

Rainwater harvesting offers a practical and sustainable solution in areas where groundwater is unsafe or unreliable, collecting and safely storing rainfall to meet the community’s needs year-round.

Mohit Singh, founder of Desi Daru, commented on the progress: “We knew that we wanted the brand to stand for something meaningful, and also support our home country, where more than 45 million people lack access to clean water.

“We are excited to see that our first project is halfway to completion, and for us, we’re just getting started.”

Charity: Water has been active in India since 2008, supporting nearly 100,000 people in Jharkhand and Odisha through more than 12,000 rural water projects.

Ellie Jefferies, director of brand partnerships and marketing at Charity: Water, said: “India is home to more than 1.45 billion people, and despite government initiatives such as the Jal Jeevan Mission, access to clean water remains one of the country’s most persistent challenges.

“Approximately 63% of India’s population lives in rural areas, and today an estimated 45.7 million people in those communities still lack access to basic clean water.

“ This is urgent and demonstrates the need for external partnerships like Desi Daru and their One Sip, One Day initiative.”

Desi Daru Vodka is available in the UK through Speciality Brands and in South Asia and the Middle East through Dhall Food and Beverages.
