Virginia Distillery Co unveils three limited whiskeys
American single malt producer Virginia Distillery Company has revealed three limited edition whiskeys, including a First Cut Cigar Blend.
Virginia Distillery Co’s First Cut Cigar Blend is an American single malt specifically designed to pair with a fine cigar.
It is made from 100% malted barley and aged for a minimum of seven years in a variety of cask types, including Spanish oak, Sherry, Port, STR (shaved, toasted, and re-charred), Château Palmer Cabernet wine, Armagnac, Cognac, and Fino casks, with a small portion aged in smoky Islay casks.
Bottled at 54% ABV, the expression presents aromas of red berries, leather, walnut, date cake, candied lemon peel, allspice, and clove, accompanied by notes of dark chocolate and subtle smoke on the finish.
In addition to the Cigar Blend, the distillery is releasing two stout cask-finished single malts under The Brewer’s Coalition series.
The first, Brewer’s Coalition 4 Hands Madagascar Stout Cask Finish, was created in partnership with 4 Hands Brewing Co from St Louis, Missouri.
The single malt whiskey is drawn from six barrels and has been aged for more than five years in premium ex-Bourbon casks before finishing in Madagascar Stout barrels.
At 50% ABV, the whiskey offers aromas of raspberries and lemon curd cookies. On the palate, it presents flavours of dark chocolate raspberry cake, roasted pecans, ginger snaps, dark cocoa, and raspberry cola.
A Cask Strength Select version of the 4 Hands collaboration will also be available in limited quantities at the brewery.
The second new Brewer’s Coalition was crafted in partnership with California’s North Coast Brewing Co, and finished in Old Rasputin Stout casks.
After ageing for more than five years in ex-Bourbon barrels, eight casks were sourced from the brewery to finish the expression.
Bottled at 50% ABV, the single malt offers aromas of almond kringle and honeycomb, followed by notes of citrus zest, dark chocolate, and malty hops on the palate.
Limited quantities of all expressions will be available in February and March on the distillery’s website and through select retailers nationwide in the US.
Virginia Distillery Co single malts are exported to other markets by Charter Brands.
Last year, the distillery partnered with Maverick Drinks to expand its distribution in the UK.
