Heaven Hill unveils commemorative Deatsville Bourbon

Kentucky-based Heaven Hill Brands has sourced a limited edition 13-year-old Bourbon from its Deatsville campus.

According to Heaven Hill, Deatsville is one of the most distinctive ageing locations in the distillery’s 90-year history.

The Deatsville campus, one of six warehouse sites in Kentucky, has been part of Heaven Hill’s heritage since the early 1980s. The site was originally home to the now-closed TW Samuels Distillery.

Today, the site includes nine Heaven Hill-owned rickhouses, with a total capacity to age 167,000 barrels.

As part of the company’s long-term stewardship of its ageing assets, all nine Deatsville rickhouses will transition to regauge-only status over the next 12 to 24 months.

Notably, Deatville is the only Heaven Hill barrel-ageing campus designed with tiered-roof architecture. This unique design is said to promote a natural stack effect, allowing warm air to rise and escape while drawing cooler air in through lower openings. This dynamic airflow creates subtle differences in maturation, contributing to Deatsville’s distinctive influence within Heaven Hill’s ageing inventory.

Over the decades, Deatsville barrels have contributed to numerous Heaven Hill expressions and have played a significant role in the lineage of many Parker’s Heritage Collection releases.

Susan Wahl, vice-president of American whiskey at Heaven Hill Brands, said: “For nearly a century, Heaven Hill has believed that great Bourbon is made by giving barrels the time, space and natural airflow they need to become themselves. This release pays tribute to the brands, barrels, and people who brought those rickhouses to life.”

The new limited edition expression is said to be one of the last opportunities to experience Bourbon that has been fully matured at the Deatsville campus.

Heaven Hill Deatsville 13-Year-Old Bourbon is made with a mash bill of 78% corn, 10% rye, and 12% malted barley. The liquid was drawn from 17 barrels that were aged on the third floor of Rickhouse AA.

The commemorative edition is offered at 54.5% ABV and will be available for US$199.99 exclusively at the Deatsville Tour & Tasting experience on site from 15 March.

The 13-year-old release marks the beginning of a multi-year tribute to the Deatsville site, with additional releases and commemorative moments planned through 2027.

Heaven Hill opened its new Heaven Hill Springs Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, last September, marking the family-owned company’s official return to the town since 1996.
