The Savoy’s American Bar loses another head bartender
By Lauren BowesAngelo Sparvoli, head bartender at the American Bar at The Savoy, has left his post after just under two years.

Posting on Instagram, Sparvoli said: “After nearly two years back at the Temple, the time has come for me to turn the page and pursue new goals.
“I’m deeply grateful to each of you for the support and unforgettable moments along the way.
“A special and heartfelt thank you to my brother in arms @andreadichiara_ for offering me a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and to my team for the trust.
“While I’m saddened to say goodbye, I’m truly excited about what lies ahead and I’m looking forward to start working on my upcoming projects.
“My final shift behind the most iconic bar counter will be on 14 January. See you there for a Negroni (or two).”
Sparvoli took over the role from Chelsie Bailey, who served from 2022 to 2024. Prior to this, Shannon Tebay held the role for just under a year, while Maxim Schulte left after less than two years.
Erik Lorincz is the only head bartender in recent history to surpass the two-year mark, having held the role for eight years.
The appointment was a return to the American Bar for Sparvoli, who started as a barback in 2016 and worked his way up to senior bartender before departing in 2020.
He subsequently took on roles at Kwãnt Mayfair and St James Bar in the Sofitel London St James before returning to The Savoy in March 2024.
A spokesperson for The Savoy said: “We wish Angelo the very best in his next chapter and thank him sincerely for his dedication and contribution to the American Bar during his time as head bartender since 2024.
“Markus Basset will continue to guide the iconic American Bar in his role as head of bars at The Savoy, and we look forward to creating many more Liquid Moments at London’s longest-surviving cocktail bar.”
