Tailored Spirits expands Experimental Series
Edinburgh-based independent bottler Tailored Spirits Co has revealed the second round of whisky releases in its Experimental Series.
Tailored Spirits Co’s The Experimental Series invites drinkers to discover the diverse flavours of Scotland’s most characterful distilleries through limited edition releases, each showcasing its own distinct story and finish.
The new small batch expressions follow the launch of three inaugural single malts in the series in January this year.
The new releases feature four whiskies: Experiment 4, a 15-year-old from Aultmore; Experiment 5 Echo, a 13-year-old single malt from Benriach; Experiment 6 Fort, a 13-year-old whisky from Dailuaine; and the Special Experiment 1 Black Label Anam, a 23-year-old single malt from Springbank Distillery.
Adam Harding, co-founder and director of Tailored Spirits Co, said: “This new collection marks an exciting step forward in our mission to celebrate experimentation in single cask whisky. It follows a year beyond our expectations – one that’s seen us grow faster than we could have imagined.
“Each whisky in The Experimental Series tells its own story of maturation, finishing, and flavour exploration, and we’re proud to continue showcasing the depth and diversity of single cask Scotch whisky.”
Drawing inspiration from vintage ski resort tickets and laboratory bottles, the series’ design includes a detachable ‘lab ticket’ with a unique code, enabling enthusiasts to track each experiment.
Harding continued: “The design is as much a part of the experience as the whisky itself. It’s about evoking curiosity – that sense of discovery and experimentation that sits at the heart of our brand.”
Single cask experiments
Experiment 4 from Bacardi-owned Aultmore is finished in a European oak Montilla wine cask, resulting in aromas of baked apple strudel, heather honey, and treacle tart on the nose. On the palate, the single malt displays notes of dark plum, caramel apple, fig jam, butterscotch, cinnamon, and coffee cake.
Limited to 151 bottles at 58.3% ABV, the 15-year-old has an RRP of £84.50 (US$111).
Experiment 5, titled Echo, from Brown-Forman-owned Benriach was initially aged in Bourbon casks before being transferred into a first-fill Pedro Ximénez Sherry octave. The release is limited to 81 bottles and retails for £82.50 (US$109).
Bottled at 56.3% ABV, the Echo offers brandy cake, toasted oak, malt loaf, and marzipan on the nose, followed by dark chilli chocolate, forest fruit preserve, Garibaldi biscuit, and charred oak on the palate.
Experiment 6, Fort, completes the series with a Port cask-finished single malt from Diageo’s Dailuaine distillery. At 48.3% ABV, it displays notes of green pear, sticky toffee pudding, walnut cake, and sandalwood on entry, with raspberries, blackberries, basil, elderflower syrup, and glazed ribs on the palate.
Limited to 109 bottles, the 13-year-old Fort has an RRP of £79.50 (US$105).
For Special Experiment 1, Black Label Anam, the bottler partnered with Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown. The exclusive release is limited to 33 bottles at 53.9% ABV and is priced at £495 (US$651).
The 23-year-old whisky is a collector’s item, available only to those who have purchased six bottles from the series.
All four new releases come in a 500ml bottle.
Tailored Spirits was founded in 2024 by Harding, Tom Costello, and Carl Johnstone. The company collaborates with private clients and businesses worldwide to source, mature, design, and bottle luxury whiskies and other spirits.
In the first quarter (Q1) of 2025, the independent bottler reported a ‘remarkable’ 900% year-on-year increase in revenue compared to the same period last year. Tailored Spirits is now reportedly on track to achieve a £3 million (US$3.95m) turnover.
