As maestro Tequilera, Romero Mena will oversee all aspects of Casa México’s production, from its agave selection to distillation and ageing.

Casa México’s range includes blanco, reposado, añejo and cristalino expresiones.

The brand has partnerships with Emmy award-winning host and entertainment presenter Mario Lopez and former professional boxer Oscar De La Hoya.

On bringing in Romero Mena, Lopez said: “I’m thrilled to be growing with Casa México. This partnership allows me to celebrate my heritage while sharing authentic experiences with the world. With the addition of the talented Ana María, it’s a perfect blend of my entertainment journey and meaningful cultural connections.”

Earlier this year, Lopez toasted the nominees at the 82nd Golden Globes with Casa México Tequila.

Romero Mena has been in the Tequila business for more than 30 years. The brand said she is ‘globally recognised as both a guardian of Tequila tradition and an innovator shaping its future’.

Daniel Bouquet, president of Casa México, added: “Ana María’s artistry and knowledge will help us write the next chapter of Casa México while staying true to our Jalisco roots. Her vision, paired with Mario’s passion and reach, creates an extraordinary opportunity for the brand as we grow globally.”

Romero Mena has been maestra Tequilera at Mijenta, founded by former Bacardi CEO Mike Dolan, since the brand’s inception.

She will remain in her partnership with Mijenta, alongside her work with Casa México.

She said: “I love Mijenta and have been so proud and honoured to see the brand grow over the past five years. From the beginning, we have been committed to making the highest quality Tequila while pushing the boundaries in the category. We have many new and exciting projects coming up, which I can’t wait to share.”

A statement from Mijenta added: “Ana María is a visionary in the world of Tequila who has blended art and science to craft Mijenta’s award-winning, additive-free expressions. Ana has always had her own portfolio of projects outside our brand, which have no impact on our strong partnership.

“We just released Ana’s amazing Maestra Selection No. 2 and look forward to continuing to work with her to deliver exciting innovations in the category.”

Correction: This article originally stated that Ana María Romero Mena had left Mijenta Tequila. It has since been updated to reflect that she still with the brand.
