Torabhaig tunes Sound of Sleat to batch strength
By Miona MadsenMossburn Distillers’ Torabhaig Distillery on the Isle of Skye has launched a cask strength version of its Sound of Sleat single malt.

The batch strength is the sixth expression in the distillery’s Legacy Series.
The newest offering from Torabhaig enhances the smoky, maritime character of Sound of Sleat, raising the ABV from 46% to 60.2%.
The collection is described as a countdown to a 10-year-old single malt, with previous releases including Legacy Series 2017, Allt Gleann, Allt Glean Batch Strength, and Cnoc Na Mòine.
Named after the narrow stretch of sea that separates Skye from the mainland, Sound of Sleat Batch Strength continues the Legacy Series tradition of honouring place and provenance. It is crafted using ‘well-tempered peat’ from the Isle of Skye, which is said to define the distillery’s style.
Made with Concerto and Laureate barley peated to 78ppm (parts per million), the single malt is matured solely in American oak, using both ex-Bourbon and new oak casks.
With a residual phenol level of 14.5ppm, the whisky showcases aromas of smoke, brine, and sweet oak spice, along with subtle notes of fragrant tobacco, orange, barley sugar, apricot, seaweed, and peat smoke. The palate follows with additional notes of bonfire embers, sweet vanilla, white pepper and a waxy mouthfeel.
Neil MacLeod Mathieson, Torabhaig whisky maker, said: “We’ve long experimented with offering the same whisky at different strengths as a way to highlight new profiles and unlock new flavours. Sound of Sleat Batch Strength delivers exactly that – big and elegant with more spiciness and a lovely waxy mouthfeel that showcases a new side to our Sound of Sleat whisky.”
The release is limited to 15,000 bottles worldwide, with a recommended retail price of £75 (US$100).
