La Martiniquaise-owned Glen Moray has launched its first Tequila cask-finished single malts.

The two limited edition whiskies, peated and unpeated, mark the Speyside-based distillery’s first releases with a second maturation in Tequila casks.

Released as part of Glen Moray’s experimental Warehouse One Collection, both small-batch expressions are offered at natural cask strength and non-chill-filtered.

As the 10th release in the series, previous expressions have included whiskies matured and finished in casks such as Rioja, amarone, amontillado, oloroso, barolo, tokaji, manzanilla, and sauternes.

The unpeated Glen Moray 2014 Tequila Cask Finish was aged for eight years in Bourbon casks before finishing in Mexico’s signature agave spirit barrels.

Bottled at 55.2% ABV, the single malt exhibits aromas of vanilla custard, currants, and toasted almonds, complemented by earthy notes of thyme, citrus, aged leather, and polished oak on the palate. The whisky retails for £85 (US$114).

Also distilled in 2014, the Peated Tequila Cask Finish offers a lightly peated take on the spirit, offering aromas of rose petals, dark chocolate, and thyme on the nose. The palate follows with notes of ripe roasted bananas and hazelnuts.

The whisky is bottled at 58.5% ABV and has a recommended retail price of £95 (US$128).

Iain Allan, global brand ambassador of Glen Moray, said: “With the innovative whiskies of our Warehouse One Collection, we invite whisky lovers to explore a raft of intriguing new flavours. And for this 10th release, we are celebrating our first-ever experiments with Tequila casks, resulting in two small-batch releases that take our smooth, fruity single malt to new heights.

“Uniting vanilla softness with subtle citrus and thyme, Glen Moray Tequila Cask Finish magnifies our whisky’s sweet complexity, while Glen Moray Peated Tequila Finish is an intriguingly floral and smoky single malt. They will make the perfect gift for any inquisitive whisky lover this festive season.”

Each release is limited to a total of 474 bottles and can be purchased from select specialist whisky retailers in the UK.

Earlier this year, Glen Moray finished whisky in maple syrup casks.
