Aryna Sabalenka serves up free Dobel cocktails in NYC

Maestro Dobel has teamed up with the world’s top-ranked women’s tennis player, Aryna Sabalenka, to offer free Tequila cocktails for the US Open.

Sabalenka might be hoping the gesture keeps her as a fan favourite with the US Open crowds

Maestro Dobel is the official Tequila of the US Open, which is the last tennis grand slam of the year and begins on Sunday (24 August). It is the Proximo Spirits-owned brand’s third year as the tournament’s partner.

Sabalenka is the tournament’s defending champion. In a post-match interview after winning the semi-final at last year’s event, she vowed to the crowd: “Drinks are on me”. Dobel has now taken her up on this promise.

To get a free drink, fans can sign up for the Dobel Tequila Club. Then, when visiting a bar or restaurant in New York and ordering a Dobel cocktail, they can get up to US$20 back on their purchase. The offer is limited to one cocktail per person.

In addition, fans in the New York metro area can get US$20 off their purchase of two bottles of any Dobel Tequila at their local liquor stores.

The Drinks On Us promotion is available at venues in New York City, but not on-site at the US Open.

Sabalenka said: “Last year, I promised fans ‘drinks on me’, and I didn’t disappoint! This year, as the defending US Open champion, I’m taking it up a level with Dobel Tequila.

“From the first day of the tournament, fans in New York visiting bars and restaurants can enjoy their first Dobel Tequila cocktail with a new ‘Drinks on Us!’ programme and bring the passion and energy to every one of my tennis matches. Salud!”

US Open partnership

Dobel’s Tequila cocktails will feature at locations and bars around the grounds at Flushing Meadows during the US Open.

The brand has also teamed up with Taylor Fritz. He is currently ranked world number four and is the top-seeded American men’s player, as well as last year’s runner-up.

More than 70,000 Ace Palomas were sold at the 2024 US Open

Both Fritz and Sabalenka have signature Dobel cocktails at the tournament: the Marg-Aryna and the Fritzy Spicy Margarita.

Fritz said: “Growing up in Southern California, Tequila has always been part of my biggest celebrations – from toasting with family and friends to marking a win on the court.

“Partnering with Dobel Tequila is the perfect match, and this US Open, I’m inviting fans to keep the energy high and raise a glass of my Dobel Tequila Fritzy Spicy Margarita all tournament long.”

As has become customary at many sporting events for sponsoring spirits brands, Maestro Dobel has created a hero cocktail for the US Open: The Ace Paloma.

It is made with Maestro Dobel Diamante Cristalino Tequila, grapefruit soda and fresh lime juice, and is served in a US Open souvenir cup.

Dobel claims to have sold more than 70,000 Ace Palomas at last year’s tournament, with the cocktail on offer to fans once again this year.

The Ace Paloma is the second most recognised drink at the US Open behind Grey Goose’s Honey Deuce, which sold more than 556,000 serves at last year’s event. The Honey Deuce will be back again this year.

Other hero cocktails from brands at sporting events include Dewar’s Lemon Wedge at the US Open Golf Championship, and Elijah Craig’s offering for The Ryder Cup, The Mulligan.
