Clydebuilt reveals new batch of single malts

Ardgowan Distillery has launched a new collection of six single malts under its independent Scotch whisky brand, Clydebuilt.

Under the common theme of number 12, the new collection features three small-batch releases distilled in 2012 and three single-cask bottlings aged for 12 years.

All six whiskies were sourced from distilleries in the Speyside region.

The batch was curated by distillery manager Laura Davies, who joined Ardgowan in November 2024.

The new batch of single malts comes less than a month since the Ardgowan Distillery in Inverkip filled its first whisky cask on 20 June 2025 after eight years of planning and construction.

The Clydebuilt label was launched in 2019, named after the shipbuilding industry that has historically been associated with the River Clyde.

Davies said: “With Ardgowan situated on the Firth of Clyde, the rich history of craftsmanship local to our distillery is the inspiration for the Clydebuilt brand. Every whisky bottled under the name must be worthy of honouring the unmatched attention to detail and pride in quality of those that came before.

“Our new single malts underwent maturation on-site at Ardgowan in premium European oak Sherry casks. All aged for 12 years, each delivers a distinctive character owed to both the distillate profile and the maturation history. Most importantly, they are all bottled with an age statement, at a minimum of 46% ABV, without chill filtration and without artificial colouring. These are undoubtedly single malts deserving of the Clydebuilt name.”

The whiskies

To celebrate a significant milestone for the distillery, the first release – a 12-year-old Official Opening Day Release – was bottled to mark the distillery’s official opening on June 20, 2025.

The Speyside single malt was matured in three Sherry casks and bottled at a cask strength of 59.5% ABV. It retails for £85 (US$114).

The second small batch 12-year-old release was aged in a combination of Sherry butts and finished in oloroso and Pedro Ximénez hogsheads.

Bottled at 46% ABV, the expression retails for £46.99 (US$63).

Offering a higher-strength iteration of the aforementioned 12-year-old, the third expression is bottled at 57.1% ABV (100 proof) and has an RRP of £64.99 (US$87).

The first of the 2012 vintages, PX Hogshead Single Cask, was drawn from a Pedro Ximénez Sherry cask, resulting in 352 bottles with an ABV of 58.5%.

Oloroso Hogshead Single Cask, on the other hand, is limited to 342 bottles at 59% ABV.

The last of the six releases, Manzanilla Hogshead Single Cask, was aged in a Manzanilla Sherry cask from the Spanish coastal town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda.

Offered at 61.1% ABV, the expression is limited to 335 bottles.

All three single cask bottlings have an SRP of £85 (US$114).

The new batch of Clydebuilt single malts will be available from specialist retailers in the UK, Austria, Belgium, Sweden and Germany.
